What’s the first thing you notice about a home? Is it the front yard or the curb appeal?
For me, its the front door. I love a colorful front door, something with a spunky wreath and maybe a fun door knocker.
After we repainted the exterior of our home, we realized our front door was in desperate need of a makeover. I thought that stripping the door down to hardwood and starting from scratch would be the best way to ensure a flawless new color.
It wasn’t until after I started taking of layers and layers of paint did I realize how big of a time suck this was going to be. Typical DIY right!? The project always takes longer and costs more than you think it will.
I spend a good few months gradually stripping off all the yellow and navy from the nooks and crannies using a heat gun and a scraper.
The end results weren’t that flattering…but I was hopeful that it would be worth it. I decided to go with a glossy black.
It’s not the most eye-popping color, but with the newly painted brick and the black shutters and roof I decided that black would be the most complementary color.
The door got a fresh coat of black paint and a lovely boxwood wreath..
